Engelmann's apparatus for studying the Movement of Ciliated Epithelium

It was used for studying the movement of ciliated epithelium. The understanding of the importance of the movement of cilia in live organisms and the fact that the ciliary activity continues hours after death was conducted with the help of this specific apparatus.
The operation is based on the movement of a sensitive needle which moves according to the ciliated epithelium' s movement which is placed between a slim cylinder and a cork surface. The movement of the ciliated epithelium was recorded by means of electromagnetic recording systems were connected to the apparatus.
